EMS: A Brazilian-Italian Artist Unveils Debut Album ‘Ecliptic‘ Inspired by His Life Journey
EMS is a rising artist with Brazilian and Italian roots. Born in Limeira, a city in São Paulo, Brazil, he is the son of Amelia Baroni and José Matos dos Santos. From a young age, EMS found solace in writing poetry and lyrics, a passion that remained constant throughout his life.
Tragedy struck when he lost his girlfriend in a car accident. Music became his refuge, a means to process grief and heal. During this painful time, he wrote “Under Your Gaze,” one of the most personal and poignant songs on his debut album.
Seeking a fresh start, EMS moved to Milan, Italy, hoping to distance himself from painful memories and move forward without relying on medication. Milan, located 239 kilometers from Ostiglia—a town where his great-grandparents once lived before emigrating to Brazil—became a symbolic place of reconnection and renewal.
After spending time in Milan, EMS relocated to London, UK, where he has lived for the past fourteen years. Despite the changes in his surroundings, his love for writing never faded. He carefully preserved his notebooks filled with poems and lyrics, waiting for the right moment to bring them to life. Now, that moment has arrived with the release of his debut album, Ecliptic, featuring thirteen tracks, including the deeply moving “Under Your Gaze.”
The song recently reached the semifinals of the International Songwriting Competition (ISC), a prestigious global contest where only around 15% of entries advance to this stage. “Under Your Gaze” stands out for its haunting beauty, exploring the duality of pain and comfort found in someone’s lingering presence.
